ART HEALING SHOWCASE
As an organization that prioritizes creative modes of healing in its approach, Avril Heals proudly shares the work from its very first Art Healing group that was led by Sasha Raee & Jae Ortiz. (The first of many!)
Jae
(they/them)
This group helped me explore healing from familial trauma, abusive relationships, and embrace + unearth knew truths about myself and my sexuality. I felt a sense of community more profound than anything I’ve ever experienced. This was a sacred space I feel so honored to have been a part of. - Jae
SASHA (she/her)
KAT (she/her)
I wanted to include this piece because it brings me back to my roots as a visual artist. As a high schooler at a “low income” art school (yes, it was an interesting place) we had to fill out a form to apply for canvas, detailing why we needed it because you see, canvas was and is expensive. For less thought through ideas, we used cardboard.

(she/her)
It’s interesting to see the color variations shared among these pieces when I look at them now. I truly believe this group helped me move from striving to create art solely for the purpose of coming out with the “perfect” piece and transitioning into flowing more freely and connecting emotionally with my art. Jae and Sasha facilitated the group wonderfully and made everyone feel welcomed safe and grounded. I looked forward to our meetings every Monday and always left feeling like I gained insightful knowledge. I enjoyed our group talks and am so very thankful for everything this class provided for me. -Shayna
